Apple Laptop Screen Repair
So you've just broken your MacBook screen and are wondering what to do, how much it will cost, and what options you have if you prefer not to pay for your laptop's repair here in Regina.
Damaged laptop screens are a prevalent issue we encounter in our Apple laptop repair business. Damage ranges from noticeable cracks to complete non-functionality.
When it comes to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptop screens, we've encountered a wide range of issues and can repair them all. Since around 2013, Apple switched from a replaceable internal screen to an integrated screen "matrix," where the top piece of the laptop constitutes the entire screen. Damage to the screen, whether it's the glass or internal LCD, requires replacing the top screen assembly.
This transition to internal displays coincided with the introduction of higher resolution retina screens. While they offer better resolution compared to older LCDs, they also come with a higher repair cost for fixing damaged, malfunctioning, and cracked Apple laptop screens.
At RescueTECH, we are members of Apple's Independent Repair Program (IRP). This means we use Apple Certified technicians, have access to Apple's training and diagnostic tools, and can purchase Apple parts directly. Being part of the IRP allows us flexibility in repairing Apple products, including the use of third-party and refurbished parts and software. However, there are drawbacks. We cannot access Apple's parts as quickly as an Apple Authorized Repair Center, and we cannot provide service under warranty, i.e., AppleCare.
What do we do?
When a client brings their laptop to our repair center, one of the first things we ask is how old the laptop is. For newer systems, we inquire if they are still under warranty. In most cases, the customer is aware of the warranty status. If not, we check the device in for repair and run it through Apple's system. If the unit is still under warranty, we inform the customer, giving them the option to repair it at another center.
If the repair is a go-ahead, we order the part and replace the screen. Typically, customers can expect our screen replacement pricing to be about 25 to 30 percent cheaper than what local Apple Authorized Repair Centers would charge for an out-of-warranty repair.
What if the customer does not want to replace the screen?
Sometimes, the cost to repair a damaged MacBook screen is too high and does not make economic sense. In some cases, the $600 - $700 it would cost to fix a five-year-old MacBook screen could be better spent on a new computer. In these cases, we offer our data migration services to the customer. This involves migrating the data from the customer's computer to another system or an external drive. If the customer still wants to use the laptop, one option is to use an external display screen. By using an external screen, one can still access the files and features of the Apple computer, without the portability of a laptop.
